Depression: magnetic resonance spectroscopy studies (review)

چکیده

Magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) is a non-invasive method for assessing the neurochemical state of brain. In recent years, growth in number high-field scanners has led to rapid increase such studies and improvement quality MRS data, development mechanisms technologies obtaining processing results. The review devoted study possibilities brain neurochemistry depression. The fundamentals techniques various approaches MRS, technical requirements material, advantages disadvantages method, difficulties interpreting results, prospects combining with fMRI EEG are considered. Most spectroscopic performed depression show an abnormal decrease concentrations amino acid neurotransmitters γ-aminobutyric glutamate, which consistent results post-mortem histopathological studies. Multivariate needed determine anatomical clinical specificity changes Glx GABA levels that found depressed patients. The presented material can be used form basis further multimodal experiments using may relevant both informed more effective drugs, last but not least, neurofeedback tools aimed at interactive interventions neural network organization depressive disorders.

Review: Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy Studies of Pediatric Major Depressive Disorder

Introduction. This paper focuses on the application of Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy (MRS) to the study of Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) in children and adolescents. Method. A literature search using the National Institutes of Health's PubMed database was conducted to identify indexed peer-reviewed MRS studies in pediatric patients with MDD. Results. The literature search yielded 18 article...

Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy Studies of Human Metabolism

Magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) is a companion technique to the more familiar magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan. Whereas MRI determines the spatial distribution of water (and lipid) protons across a region of interest, MRS measures the chemical content of MR-visible nuclei, which include the metabolically relevant elements of hydrogen (H), carbon (C), and phosphorus (P). MRS is partic...

Application of Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy in Neurocognitive Assessment After Head Injury: A Systematic Review

Background: Traumatic brain injury is believed to be a public health disorder with some complications. Post Traumatic Neurocognitive Disorders (PTND) received much attention among these complications because of the high prevalence of mild traumatic brain injuries. On the other hand, advanced neuroimaging is increasingly becoming an exciting modality in the field of traumatic brain injury. Magne...
